Decluttering in 2023

With the new year comes a few new things you’ll see in stores: workout equipment and home organization supplies!
And while I NEED to be jumping on the fitness train, my first priority of those 2 is DECLUTTERING my home. My guess is that a LOT of people are in the same boat! 🚣🏼♂️
So let’s talk about decluttering, cleaning out, and organizing your home in 2023!
If you have known me personally for a while, you know my husband and I lost basically all we own in a house fire in 2018. It was our first home together and in it held almost all of our childhood possessions that we *may or may not* have been hoarding.
Of course, losing everything was extremely difficult and somewhat traumatizing, but I liked to joke that he and I did the Marie Kondo method to the extreme! ;) There were 2 sides to this coin – we moved into our next home without so much as a chair to sit in or a spatula to cook with, but we also didn’t have to move a lot (mainly the clothes we had re-purchased ourselves– talk about capsule wardrobe) and our home was truly CLUTTER FREE for quite a while.
This all ended quickly when we had a baby. IYKYK how much STUFF a baby brings into your home! SO, here are the areas I’m focusing on this year to declutter.
Christmas Decor 🎄
Starting over meant I’ve been buying Christmas decor every single year for 3 years now. This year was the first time I invested in a nice Christmas Tree Storage container and this one was actually big enough for my 7 ft tree to fit in easily. I also had to rack up on storage tubs to get the rest of my decor CONTAINED so it can go in upstairs attic closets.
Throw Blankets/Pillows/Bedding 🛌
Geez Louise at the amount of throw blankets I have accumulated. Deciding to donate what I don’t use is a step I’m working on now and my linen closet is going to THANK me later.
TOYS 🧸
This is a big one. I have been very diligent about switching toys out as Adelaide grows out of playing with them and storing them away. But when I say store… I mean put into a box in the corner of her play room. 😆 This year, on New Year’s Day, I went through toys that we had duplicates of, that she no longer liked or needed, and decided to part ways with and donate quite a few. I also purchased these storage supplies for her play room that are REALLY helping me contain the hundreds of tiny toys she has acquired. They’re a game changer!

These are my top 3 areas I’m tackling this new year, along with plenty of closet makeovers to help keep these things organized. I would LOVE to know how you're cleaning out this New Year!
