Happy February! In the spirit of the month of love, I want to share five things I absolutely love about Cullman, Alabama—my hometown. Whether you're considering moving here or already call Cullman home, you might just fall in love with it too!
If we haven’t met yet, I’m Sydney Chappell, your Cullman Realtor. I specialize in educating buyers and sellers so they can make confident decisions in their real estate journey. Now, let’s jump into what makes Cullman such a special place!
1. The Convenience of I-65 & Proximity to Amazing Destinations 🚗✈️
One of the best things about Cullman is how easy it is to get around. Thanks to I-65, I can quickly drive across town or head out of Cullman in no time. Our central location makes travel a breeze:✅ Nashville – Just 3 hours away✅ Gulf Shores – 5-6 hours to beautiful beaches✅ Atlanta – Under 3 hours to the busiest airport in the world✅ Gatlinburg – 4 hours to the stunning Smoky Mountains
There’s no better spot in the Southeast to have so many vacation destinations within a short drive!
2. Cullman’s Growth While Keeping Its Small-Town Charm 🏡🎡
If you've lived in Cullman for a while, you know just how much the city has grown over the past 10-15 years. With new parks, events, and businesses, the community has expanded while holding onto its small-town feel.
From year-round festivals to an amazing Parks & Rec program, Cullman offers big-city amenities without losing its welcoming, hometown atmosphere.
3. The People – Genuine Southern Hospitality 🤝💛
Cullman is full of kind, genuine people. I was reminded of this just the other day when I stopped at Whitlock’s Grocery near Smith Lake. A sweet older gentleman struck up a conversation and reminded me of my grandfather—it was such a heartwarming moment!
Even people moving here from out of state notice how friendly Cullmanites are. Some expect Southern hospitality to be “too good to be true,” but here, people really do care about you for no reason—and that’s something truly special.
4. Smith Lake – The Best of Both Worlds 🌊🌅
Cullman County offers the perfect balance—you can be close to work, shopping, and schools, yet within 15-20 minutes, you’re on the water at Smith Lake!
Whether you want a weekend getaway, a peaceful lakefront home, or just a beautiful spot to unwind, Smith Lake is one of the most stunning lakes in Alabama. And with the warm weather we’ve been having (hello, 68° in February!), it’s always a good time to take in the lake views.
5. A Wonderful Place to Raise a Family 👨👩👧👦🏫
Now that I’m a parent, I appreciate Cullman even more for how great it is to raise kids. Here’s why:✅ Low crime rates = Safe communities✅ Top-rated schools – Public, private, and homeschool options✅ Endless activities – Sports, city rec programs, & local parks
Cullman has so many family-friendly resources, making it the perfect place for kids to grow and thrive.
